Taiji Seminars Durham & London

Deeply refined teachings using 5 inner senses, in the footsteps of Mst Huang Xingxian & Patrick A Kelly.

Sat 10th Aug  - LONDON  (9.45) 10am-5pm £50

Joe Harte is a Senior Instructor under Patrick Kelly with
35 yrs martial arts experience, 20 years intensive Taiji.

The Hub, Woodberry Grove, London N4 1SN
(5mins walk from Manor House underground station)
Bring lunch, use of kitchen, outdoor training if fine.

Suitable for: Those who have some Taiji experience. This seminar will cover the deeper aspects of Taiji training beyond just outer movement. Working through the smooth, accurate, released & aligned body we begin the process of awakening the ‘Deep Mind’. Concentration on the 5 inner senses, allows review of current habitual patterns and Taiji then becomes a continuous catalyst for deep inner change and refinement – leading to gentleness with inner strength and profound peace of mind.

5 Loosening Exercises: of Huang Xingxian are a deeply refined training in themselves. Smoothly co-ordinating the body, we then learn how to begin moving the mind ahead of the movement. Understanding how releasing habitually held muscle states whilst exploring the detailed alignment of the joints within the 5 stage vertical circle gives rise the elusive Taiji jing.

Taiji Short & Long Form
Within the outer sequence we explore the continuously changing 5 natural muscle phases, giving rise to spring like forces that arise within the ebb and flow of movement. This deeply concentrated method builds to enhance Mind intention (Yi), Energy flow (Chi), and awareness (Ding Jing). Through the sequence of muscle state changes, as the body settles the earliest connections begin to form and forces rise. Stretch and pressure build through the body like a gently inflating balloon or the ‘bending of the Bow’.

Set Pattern Pushing hands: Each of these precise partner exercises are designed to explore our responses to sensitively applied incoming forces. In this way we can learn to remain undisturbed with the mind deep whilst softly yielding and neutralising. In bringing the deep mind states from the Loosening exercises and Forms into the partner work one may equate this with learning to deal calmly with situations in outer life.

The applications or returning of a partners force within each of the set patterns calls for a high degree of co-ordination and timing. This is the refined martial aspect of the Taiji - Just as the Zen Master Archers ‘allow’ the shot to release itself seemingly doing nothing, so in Taiji we allow the returning of the partners force through a wave of un-stretching muscles and they are thrown.

8 Paths Energy Transformation: Ancient Daoist meditations circulate the harmonised energy using intention and awareness through the 8 special channels.

Taiji workshop London?

Can you help?

I'm looking to run a Taiji workshop (in the footsteps of Huang Xingxian / Patrick Kelly) in north London, Manor House / Finsbury park/ Stoke Newington area poss Aug 10th.

I am looking for a reasonably cheap venue,  or outside park location with nearby shelter if it rains.
Any local info please?
I used to live near manor house years back and will be visiting my folks in the summer so the opportunity exists to do some training.

A few of my students may come, others most welcome.

Perhaps you run a martial arts school in the area and would be interested in hosting the day? normally 10am-5pm Who am I? see www.communigate.co.uk/ne/taijiquan
