5 Loosening Exercises:

Designed by Master Huang Sheng Shyan are a complete training in themselves. Initially we accurately and smoothly co-ordinate the body movements, then begin to look at releasing habitually held muscle states exploring the detailed alignment of the joints within the vertical circle. Focusing on the on the 5 internal senses, deep awareness pulls us deeper, and then we introduce intention.

Cheng Man Ch’ing 37 movement [Short] Form:
Beyond the outer shape and sequence, we will explore the continuous inner changes as the forces within the body ebb and flow. With the rising and falling waves we transition through the 5 natural muscle phases of the body.

Yang Cheng Fu 108 [Long] Form:
This deeply concentrated form builds on the previous work to enhance concentration, deep mind intention, energy flow, internal awareness.
As the body settles the earliest connections form and forces rise, muscle states change, stretch and pressure rise through the body like a gently inflating balloon.

Set Pattern Pushing hands:
Or ‘sensitivity hands’ - each of these precise partner exercises are designed to explore our responses to sensitively applied incoming forces. In this way we can learn to remain undisturbed with the mind deep whilst softly yielding and neutralising. In bringing the deep mind states from the previous solo Loosening exercises and Forms into the partner work one may equate this with learning to deal calmly with situations in outer life.

The ‘applications’ within each of the set patterns call for a high degree of sensitivity and timing. This is the refined martial aspect of the Taiji - Just as the Zen Master Archers ‘allow’ the shot to release itself seemingly doing nothing, so in Taiji we allow the returning of the partners force through a wave of un-stretching muscles.

8 Paths Energy Transformation:
Ancient Daoist meditations circulate the harmonised energy using deep mind intention through the 8 special channels. Once in a deep and harmonised state the energy may be further refined.
